At the April Board of Education meeting, three students were recognized for being renewed as Carson Scholars in 2026:
Abby Beauchemin, 8th grader at Lockerman Middle School – 5th year
Lucy Howard, 10th grader at North Caroline High School – 2nd year
Christian Lahneman, 11th grader at North Caroline High School – 7th year
In addition, three additional students received scholarships this year:
Rilyn Breeding, 8th grader at Colonel Richardson Middle School
Ava Collins, 11th grader at Colonel Richardson High School
Emma Hansley, 11th grader at North Caroline High School
Dr. Simmons introduced the students, emphasizing that they embody the academic achievement and humanitarian spirit the award is designed to honor.
Carson Scholars Fund scholarship program awards $1,000 college scholarships to students in grades 4-11 who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities. Students must attend an accredited K-12 school in the United States and be nominated by an educator at their school to be able to compete for a Carson Scholarship. In order for a student to be eligible for the award, they must have a GPA of 3.75 or higher and participate in community service activities. Previous winners of Carson Scholarships are eligible to reapply for Carson Scholar Recognition annually.
