Teacher Partners Coming to Grades 3 and 4
This coming school year, RES will introduce a teaching concept called Teacher Partners in grades 3 and 4 (only). Two teachers from the same grade level will work together to instruct your child. Students in grade 3 and 4 will have a pair of primary teachers. This schedule will work with both grade levels having 4 teachers. Each grade level will have two teaching partner teams. One teacher on each team will teach the students reading/language arts and their teaching partner will teach the students math/science and social studies. Your child will essentially have two expert teachers next year rather than one.
This change will allow teachers to focus more in-depth in their designated content area(s). Students’ daily schedule will be basically the same as this year except they will work with two teachers. Students will have reading/language arts with one teacher and then move to their math/science and social studies teacher’s classroom during the day or vice versa. Your child will still have a homeroom teacher. This teacher will take attendance, collect doctor notes, receive field trip money, etc. Students will continue to go to specials, lunch and recess with their homeroom class.
We look forward to this change and expect a smooth transition. Mr. Sutton has set a time for parents/guardians of next year’s 3rd and 4th grade students to visit and discuss Teaching Partners on Monday, June 10, from 6 – 6:30 PM in the cafeteria. At the present time, next year’s 5th grade will have only 3 teachers. The plan will be to move Teaching Partners into 5th grade the following year (2020 – 2021) when 5th grade will have 4 teachers and allow for Teaching Partners.
Summer Reading Challenge 2019
Reading over the summer helps ensure that students to not lose what they have learned all year. Studies show that students who do not read or have access to books over the summer lose 3 – 4 months of reading growth. In order to help, RES current pre-k to grade 5 students keep reading, we will be providing RE students with books to take home. Each student will receive a special bag to keep books safe. RES teachers will be hosting book sign-out parties from 5:30 – 6:30 PM every other Tuesday evening. We will also have snacks, crafts, games, and other activities. Please make plans to attend the upcoming Sign Out Parties on July 2, 16, 30, and August 13 and 27.
